Program schedule: Friday
7:00-9:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am-4:00 pm
This intensive weekend
program explores the challenges of working in plein air directly from
the landscape, and provides an introduction to the traditional methods
and materials of alla prima (direct) painting in oil paints. Instruction
will include a slide lecture discussing topics ranging from the history
of plein air painting, to the preparation of painting panels for use
in the field, to a step-by-step demonstration of the instructor painting
from a landscape. And on both days, the painting sessions begin with
a demonstration by the instructor. Students receive individual instruction
as they work on their own paintings, following the demonstration.
Appropriate for beginners as well as experienced painters.
For both weekends, the
Friday evenning slide lecture will be at the school. The daytime sessions
will be held off-site on the scenic grounds of the nearby Norman Rockwell
Museum.
In case of rain, painting
sessions will be held in the painting studio at the school.
